Chairman’s Welcome

Welcome to The Salcombe Festival 2010 and most immediately to this new web site; a work in constant development, and inviting your support and ideas.

New Changes

As we approach the 14th ‘Celebration of Salcombe’, circumstances force me to demonstrate ‘corporate gravitas’ for the first time; which I don’t find easy! However, ‘like it or not’ the festival is now quite a business and I realise we must adapt, so the project is now promoted under the entity of The Salcombe Festival Company Limited, although its spirit remains rooted in quasi charitable status; run mainly by volunteers.

Ever Better

There seems to be consensus that 2009 was ‘ground breaking’; that despite the shocking recession, the generosity of residents, visitors and the business community even allowed us to ‘lift the bar’, and emerge focused on where to steer the project. Therefore our ‘Mission Statement’ will further concentrate on the estuary, where we’ll aim for a more equal emphasis of marine based events, to sit with the music, street entertainment and hospitality in the town. In this regard, we’re delighted to have the continued enthusiasm of The British Classic Yacht Club for 2010; with whom we hope to develop something very niche and special.

Love of the Festival

I’ll now dare to dream that The Salcombe Festival will one day sit proudly amongst the best of National and European festivals, and if we can improve a little each year – including with how we decorate the town, I’m certain the event will be increasingly good for our spiritual well being as well as the local economy!

Needing Your Support

On behalf of my committee, I hope you will continue to ‘back’ the weekend of 11th – 13th June 2010, and invite / beg your involvement through advertising in The Festival Times / Programme and on this Web site, which we’ll keep active throughout the year. We then need sponsorships towards the cost of artists and specific events, but the most modest donation will also be welcome. I’m afraid our target is £22,000!

Best wishes,

David Cohan
