A CELEBRATION OF MUSIC AND SAIL
On The Water
The 2010 Festival is looking promising in terms of boats. Our offer will include some of the old favourites as well as something a little bit different.
We plan to get the much loved fleet of retired lifeboats back again and the retired
RNLI heroes – a good ol’ staple of the festival.
We are also keen to include various types of classic boats and hopefully a race for classic dinghies (with the Chris Millwood trophy for sailing boats)
– watch this space for more information.
Steam boats will hopefully be back in force and the infamous and crazy ‘Bang and Go Back Race’ will be running. Come and watch the bizarre collection of old Stuart Turner, Brit engine and Diesel class boats racing backwards and forwards across the start line with their engines locked at a constant speed. Boats have to change their speed using passengers moving from the bow to the stern of the boat, changing direction every time the hooter goes and first one back to the start line when the final hooter sounds is the winner. Alas, there is no official rule book.
Let us know if you have any other ideas about other classic type boats – we want to show off Salcombe’s heritage and get a glimpse of what the estuary would have looked like way back when.
